TRUSTING Study Reaches Major Recruitment Milestone Across Europe

June, 2026

The TRUSTING project has reached an important milestone in its mission to improve the early detection and monitoring of schizophrenia relapse through innovative speech-based technologies.

Over the past few months, significant progress has been made in activating study sites and recruiting participants across Europe, Switzerland and Turkey. Five of the six study centres are now fully operational and actively enrolling participants, with the final site expected to begin recruitment shortly.

Strong Recruitment Momentum

Since participant recruitment began to scale up in January 2026, enrolment has steadily increased across participating countries. Several study centres have already surpassed their initial recruitment targets, demonstrating strong engagement from both research teams and participants.

As is often the case in international research projects, some sites experienced longer regulatory approval processes than anticipated before they could begin recruitment. Through close collaboration between partners and proactive planning, the TRUSTING consortium successfully minimised the impact of these delays and kept recruitment on track.

Overall, participant recruitment is progressing according to plan, providing a strong foundation for the next phase of the study.

Why This Matters

Recruiting participants is a critical step in ensuring that the TRUSTING project can generate robust evidence on how speech-based digital tools may help identify early signs of relapse in people living with psychosis. The growing participation across study sites reflects the commitment of researchers, healthcare professionals, and participants working together to advance mental health innovation.

Looking Ahead

In the coming months, Work Package 4 (WP4) will focus on:

  • Continuing participant recruitment across all active study sites.
  • Bringing the final study centre into the project.
  • Maintaining harmonised study procedures across countries.
  • Ensuring high-quality and consistent data collection throughout the study.

The consortium would like to thank all project partners, site teams, healthcare professionals, and participants for their continued dedication and support during this important implementation phase.

As recruitment continues to expand, TRUSTING moves one step closer to developing new tools that could support earlier intervention and better outcomes for people affected by psychosis.
